My Preference is SKYPE. It is FREE, mac/pc/mobile and can do TEXT messages (or voice, whiteboard, even video conferencing)

METHOD 2 – LIVE CHAT:
If installing skype is too much, you can just use any web browser to use our LIVE CHAT – the only downside is we both need to be on-line at the same time.
